Trevor Pugh, PhD, FACMG

Program Director and Principal Investigator, Genomics

Dr. Trevor Pugh, PhD, FACMG is a cancer genomics researcher, board-certified molecular geneticist, and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Translational Genomics. He is appointed as Professor in the University of Toronto Department of Medical Biophysics, Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and Senior Investigator at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research.

He is Director of the OICR Genomics Program and the Princess Margaret Genomics Centre, genomics cores that specialize in single cell, cell-free DNA and clinically-accredited whole genome sequencing. He has contributed to multiple large-scale genomics and data-sharing programs including NCI TARGET, AACR GENIE, and the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network.

Morgan Taschuk, MSc

Director, Genome Sequence Informatics

Morgan Taschuk, MSc is the Director of the Genome Sequence Informatics team, the bioinformatics and software development group in OICR Genomics. Her team of 20+ software developers, bioinformaticians and clinical interpreters create open source software for cancer, serve both research and clinical informatics analysis needs, and interpret cancer genomes for clinical trials. Morgan did her BHSc Honours in Bioinformatics at the University of Calgary and her MSc with distinction in Bioinformatics at Newcastle University (UK). Morgan has been at OICR since 2011 in various roles, including Bioinformatics Pipeline Developer, Project Leader, and Senior Manager. Her interests are in robust software engineering practices as well as reproducible and clinically relevant bioinformatics analysis.

Bernard Lam, PhD

Associate Director, Translational Genomics Laboratory

Dr. Bernard Lam holds a graduate degree in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of Toronto and completed a Postdoctoral appointment at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. With over 13 years of experience as a Senior Research Scientist, he specialized in product and assay development for molecular biology and genomics applications within an ISO13485 and ISO15189-accredited company. In his current role as Associate Director of the Translational Genomics Laboratory, Dr. Lam oversees the day-to-day operations of the high-throughput next generation sequencing laboratory in the Genomics program.

Carolyn Ptak, PhD, PMP, CMQ

Senior Program Manager, Genomics

Lead, Quality Assurance

Dr. Carolyn Ptak completed her BScH in Life Sciences at Queen’s University, followed by a PhD in Epigenetics at the University of Toronto, receiving numerous awards and distinctions. Additionally, Carolyn is a certified internal auditor and member in good standing with the Project Management Institute and American Society for Quality. In her role as Senior Program Manager & Quality Assurance Lead, she strives to continuously improve quality processes and program operations, with the ultimate goal of translating research assays into clinical services.
